Dennis Tan on Energy Conservation (Amendment) Bill
Singapore's transition to net zero must be backed by rigorous and effective action that is technically sound and socially just, said MP Dennis Tan. Speaking in parliament on Tuesday (Apr 7), he highlighted the squeeze on small- and medium-sized enterprises in the e-commerce space and wanted to know how the government would ensure that its digital enforcement powers do not unfairly penalise them. Turning to the impact on lower-income families, he raised concerns that the restrictions may inadvertently raise the entry price for essential appliances and budget-friendly direct imports. He asked if the government would consider measures to ensure that lower-income families are not priced out of the market.
