Dennis Tan on Health Information Bill

17:03 Min

The Health Information Bill (HIB) is transformative and is “not merely a technological upgrade”, said MP Dennis Tan. Speaking in parliament on Monday (Jan 12), he said fragmented and often paper-based health records held by individual healthcare providers will be “a thing of the past”, promising smoother, safer and more efficient healthcare. The successful implementation of HIB is critical to ensuring seamless care continuity across different healthcare institutions, he added. However, these benefits come with trade-offs which, if not properly addressed, will affect trust, he warned. Mr Tan raised several concerns, including the challenges for smaller healthcare operators and the punitive costs for non-participation and non-compliance.
