Dennis Tan on moving towards a low-carbon society

08:11 Min

Singapore’s move towards a low-carbon society must be a “just transition”, said MP Dennis Tan in Parliament on Wednesday (Jan 12). One way it can achieve this is to create a roadmap for Singaporean workers at risk of displacement as the green economy develops, and to ensure that upskilling and career conversion programmes are geared towards capturing new opportunities. Mr Tan said carbon taxes can and should be properly channelled towards funding these efforts. He also said Singapore, as a shipping and logistics hub and a commercial centre, must look at how it can play an important part in the global supply chain’s green transition.
