Dennis Tan on Singapore Armed Forces and Other Matters Bill
In Parliament on Tuesday (Aug 2), MP Dennis Tan voiced support for the proposed Digital and Intelligence Service (DIS). He sought clarifications on the recruitment of personnel for the DIS. He wanted to know how DIS will leverage the wider digital ecosystem, as well as the expected proportion of staff from within and outside the Singapore Armed Forces. He also asked if non-Singaporeans and permanent residents will be allowed to serve in the DIS, and the security safeguards in place if they are allowed to do so. Mr Tan also wanted to know what safeguards will be in place to prevent the misuse of investigative powers.
