Derrick Goh on misuse of drugs and constitution amendment bills

05:08 Min

Singapore has been steadfast in its “zero-tolerance” approach towards drugs, in contrast with the increasingly softer approach taken by more and more countries globally and in the region, said MP Derrick Goh. Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday (Mar 21), he said what is even more alarming is the increased use of cannabis, particularly by the young. He said he is heartened that the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) is ensuring that the country’s drug policies are robust and relevant to deal with evolving trends, especially with the reopening of borders and rebound in travel. He also sought clarifications on the proposed changes to the law. He wanted to know what safeguards will be put in place to ensure that newly discovered new psychoactive substances (NPS) are thoroughly examined before inclusion or exclusion in the legislative framework. He also wanted to know how MHA plans to better equip and educate the public on NPS.
