Desmond Lee on building more “vertical kampungs”
HDB will continue to explore opportunities to develop more “vertical kampungs” to foster stronger community bonds, taking into consideration the availability of suitable sites and the needs of residents. The first project of its kind, Kampung Admiralty, has seen positive feedback and outcomes, said National Development Minister Desmond Lee in Parliament on Monday (Nov 7). Residents have indicated that they feel a strong sense of well-being and belonging to their community, and enjoy better mobility and safety. Service providers have also been able to form better partnerships, especially when organising inter-generational activities, due to the co-location of facilities and close proximity to residents. In reply to an MP’s question, Mr Lee said HDB also co-locates childcare and eldercare facilities, where possible, in new Build-to-Order developments. He noted that this month, a second Community Care Apartments pilot will be launched within Singapore’s first Health District in Queenstown.
