Desmond Lee on planning locations of schools in Singapore

08:07 Min

When planning for schools across Singapore, the Ministry of Education’s (MOE) main aim is to ensure that national and localised demand for school places is met. When demand falls or is projected to fall in a particular area, MOE considers relocating schools - including popular ones - to areas with higher demand, usually where significant new housing is being developed. The ministry will continue to review admission policies so that schools remain accessible to children from all backgrounds. Education Minister Desmond Lee said this in parliament on Wednesday (Jan 14). He was answering an MP’s question on whether popular schools might be periodically moved to neighbourhoods with different mixes of housing and socioeconomic status.
