Desmond Lee on review of laws to safeguard animal health and welfare
The Government is reviewing the laws to safeguard animal health and welfare, as well as public health and safety. These include the penalty framework of the Animals and Birds Act to ensure that it is effective in deterring and punishing acts of animal cruelty and abuse. The review is wide-ranging and includes strengthening animal disease prevention, as well as possible regulation of veterinary health products and animal training devices. National Development Minister Desmond Lee, who highlighted this in reply to an MP’s question in Parliament on Wednesday (Nov 13), said the Government will continue to take a collaborative approach and engage the public and community stakeholders to ensure that their views are considered. It will announce more details when they are ready, he added.
