Desmond Tan on Police Force (Amendment) Bill

23:01 Min
Police officers would be empowered to forcibly enter premises in cases of a medical emergency, under a Bill up for debate in Parliament on Monday (Aug 2). The Bill also expands the powers of special police officers, such as full-time and operationally ready national servicemen, and commercial affairs officers, so they can better do their jobs. Minister of State for Home Affairs Desmond Tan said other amendments include protecting officers from liability for acts done in good faith and allowing regular officers to resign in times of crisis only with the police commissioner’s approval.
