Desmond Tan on Workplace Fairness (Dispute Resolution) Bill

The Workplace Fairness (Dispute Resolution) Bill gives older workers stronger protection and better access to union representation in resolving disputes, said Senior Minister of State and NTUC Deputy Secretary-General Desmond Tan. However, he noted that as recruitment becomes increasingly digital, safeguards against age bias in AI-based hiring tools must be put in place. He said NTUC seeks stronger guidance and governance standards for AI-powered human resources systems to ensure that technology promotes fairness and does not perpetuate hidden discrimination. Mr Tan spoke in parliament on Tuesday (Nov 4).
