Don Wee on Child Development Co-Savings (Amendment) Bill

04:04 Min

Longer parental leave periods not only foster stronger bonds but also contribute to healthier emotional development in children, said MP Don Wee. Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday (Sep 19), he said the Bill also addresses the need for fathers to be more involved in the care and nurturing of their children. He urged the Government to continue to study the effects of these policy reforms on child development, parental well-being and worker productivity. He said the information can be used to drive future legislative changes. Mr Wee also stressed the need for tighter and more comprehensive collaboration between Government agencies, educational institutions and the commercial sector to develop a more complete support network for families. He urged the Government to launch a public awareness campaign to help parents know and understand their rights so that all eligible families will benefit from these provisions.
