Don Wee on Environmental Protection and Management (Amendment) Bill
In Parliament on Monday (Sep 13), MP Don Wee said he supports the proposed measures to reduce emissions of hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) refrigerants, which are a potent greenhouse gas. However, he questioned the timing in view of the difficulties faced by many companies amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Mr Wee voiced concern about increased costs for SMEs. He cited the higher upfront price of eco-friendly commercial water-cooled chillers and the need to train technicians to handle refrigerants as well as get spent refrigerants properly treated.
