Don Wee on Good Samaritan Food Donation Bill

03:48 Min

The Good Samaritan Food Donation Bill will encourage more food donations by offering legal protection to well-meaning donors against liability, said MP Don Wee. Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday (Aug 6), he said recipients are protected as there are clear specifications to ensure that the food donated meets hygiene requirements and delivery timeframes for food safety. Mr Wee said the Bill will also go a long way to cut down on the huge amounts of food waste in Singapore. He wanted to know how the authorities will enforce the guidelines for the safe handling, storage and transportation of donated food and ensure that staff and volunteers are trained on food safety practices. Mr Wee also stressed the need for public accountability on the collection and publication of donation data and impact reports.
