Don Wee on Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill

There is no better time to implement the changes outlined in the Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill as e-commerce has become the “hottest vertical” in Singapore’s tech sector during the COVID-19 pandemic, said MP Don Wee. In Parliament on Tuesday (Nov 2), he said the taxman should come up with a simplified registration and compliance regime for foreign online suppliers. He also raised concerns about potentially large numbers of gig economy operators whose activities might involve considerable GST revenues but who might have limited knowledge and capacity to comply with the GST system.
