Edward Chia on Building a Healthier SG

09:06 Min

The Government must engage employers and insurers to recalibrate their benefits in line with Healthier SG’s preventive approach to healthcare - that was the call from MP Edward Chia. He said employers will need help to remodel corporate healthcare plans and asked how the idea of keeping to one primary care doctor will gel with companies’ panel doctors, changing healthcare providers, or when employees move to a new firm. Meanwhile, the calculation of risk by insurers ought to take preventive healthcare efforts into account. Mr Chia also said that in taking ownership of their health, people must have the freedom to make choices at key stages of their lives. He asked about the length of the enrolment period in which up to four changes of family doctor will be allowed. He also suggested that the Ministry of Health work with the private sector to provide virtual doctors and fitness coaches. Mr Chia spoke during the debate on the White Paper on Healthier SG in Parliament on Tuesday (Oct 4).
