Edward Chia on Electric Vehicles Charging Bill
With the expansion of the EV charging network, consumers may now be more inclined to purchase an electric vehicle (EV), said MP Edward Chia. Speaking in Parliament on Wednesday (Nov 30), he wanted to know how this will impact employees in vehicle maintenance and repair companies. He also wanted to know how the Government will ensure that the employees do not lose their jobs because their skills are now deemed less relevant. As the auto industry shifts to EVs and digital services, he said new skills and training will be needed. He wanted to know if Singapore can produce enough talent to meet market demands. He asked if the Land Transport Authority (LTA) can look into having a skills transformation roadmap for workers to upskill to become charger equipment specialists. He also asked if LTA is working with Continuing Education and Training centres to help build the manpower pool to meet market demand.
