Edward Chia on Workplace Fairness Bill
In Parliament on Tuesday (Jan 7), MP Edward Chia expressed support for the Workplace Fairness Bill, stating that it establishes clear rules against workplace discrimination while safeguarding core values of trust, fairness and open dialogue, striking a necessary balance between employees’ right to redress and employers’ need to manage operations effectively. He raised three points in his speech - including concerns about a litigious work environment and the resource limitation challenges small enterprises may face in implementing the Bill, as well as the unintended consequences of an exemption from it.
