Elysa Chen on Online Safety (Relief and Accountability) Bill
Clear accountability mechanisms will strengthen public trust in the work of the Online Safety Commission, said MP Elysa Chen. Apart from internal reviews, she suggested judicial oversight with prescribed short timelines and low court fees to ensure swift, low-cost resolutions. In parliament on Wednesday (Nov 5), she also urged mechanisms for recourse for those who have been “wrongly penalised by overzealous moderation”. Ms Chen also called for more comprehensive online protection for children by advancing and expanding ‘safety by design’ principles.
