Eric Chua on homeless shelters
Singapore has seven government-funded transitional shelters for the homeless and 20 Safe, Sound Sleeping Places (S3Ps) run by charitable organisations or volunteer groups. These provide total bed spaces of 730 and 160 respectively. Transitional shelters offer help to residents to transition to long-term housing. Youths and young adults stay in transitional shelters for an average of seven months, compared to 10 months for individuals overall. These details were given by Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Social and Family Development Eric Chua in response to an MP’s questions in parliament on Wednesday (Jan 14).
