An increase in Singapore Pools' lotteries and sports betting turnover between financial year 2020 to 2021 and financial year 2021 to 2022 can be attributed to several factors, including pent-up demand from COVID-19 restrictions and the resumption of football tournaments globally. Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Social and Family Development Eric Chua said this in Parliament on Tuesday (Jan 10) in response to an MP’s questions. He said the gambling participation rate has overall stayed stable over the past 10 years at about 50 per cent, while pathological and problem gambling rates have remained consistent at one per cent. Mr Chua said his ministry, together with the Gambling Regulatory Authority and Ministry of Home Affairs, regularly review and strengthen social safeguards and mandate gambling operators to implement responsible gambling measures.
