Singapore expects to welcome about 40,000 international visitors when it hosts the World Aquatics and World Aquatics Masters Championships. The incremental tourism receipts generated are estimated to be about S$60 million. Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Culture, Community and Youth Eric Chua gave this update in reply to an MP’s questions in parliament on Thursday (Feb 27). He said a temporary facility in Kallang is being constructed. This will also be used for the World Aquatics Masters Championships from Jul 26 to Aug 22. Mr Chua said the temporary facility could possibly be used for other local and regional needs, as well as for athlete training and public use. He assured the House that the organising committee has been careful to reduce costs where possible while working hard to secure sponsorships.
