Eric Chua on sports facilities for HDB towns
The Sports Facilities Master Plan aims to give Singaporeans good access to high-quality sports facilities to pursue an active lifestyle, stay healthy and build strong community bonds, said Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Culture, Community and Youth Eric Chua. Replying to an MP's questions in Parliament on Monday (Feb 27), he said it comprises a range of sporting and recreational facilities that meet national, regional and local town needs. The aim is for every HDB town to have either a town sports centre or regional sports centre. Depending on population trends, this may also be supplemented with a town play field. Mr Chua said these facilities offer a broad range of sporting amenities to cater to a variety of different sporting and recreational interests. In determining what specific facilities to put in the towns, SportSG takes into account considerations such as town population size, utilisation rates, availability of space, proximity to other sports and recreational amenities, as well as feedback from residents, he said.
