Gan Siow Huang on Chinese dialects as an elective in schools
Bilingualism is the cornerstone of Singapore's education system, with the focus on developing students' proficiency in English and their Mother Tongue Languages. There are currently no plans to introduce Chinese dialects as an elective in the schools. Students who are interested in learning dialects can explore classes organised by the Chinese clan associations. Minister of State for Education Gan Siow Huang said this in reply to an MP’s question in Parliament on Wednesday (Nov 13).
