Gan Siow Huang on sky terraces, open spaces for schools
An eight-storey primary school with sky terraces and pockets of open spaces, as well adjacent classrooms at various levels for students to interact, play and exercise. It also has an open area with a parade square which doubles up as a play court, playground and other outdoor learning spaces on the second level. Together, these sections form a contiguous space for formal and informal student activities. Minister of State for Education Gan Siow Huang highlighted this as an example of how the Ministry of Education (MOE) makes the best use of the limited land in Singapore by adopting high-rise designs without hindering and compromising teaching and learning. In particular, MOE provides open spaces in school campuses to support student learning, as well as healthy social and emotional development, she said in reply to an MP's questions in Parliament on Tuesday (Nov 29).
