Gan Siow Huang on Statutes (Miscellaneous Amendments) (No. 2) Bill
The Ministry of Trade and Industry was renamed the Ministry of Energy, Trade and Industry in October - its first name change in almost five decades. Minister of State for Energy, Trade and Industry Gan Siow Huang told parliament that the milestone reflects how fundamental energy has become to Singapore's economic competitiveness, industrial transformation and long-term resilience. The country’s economic growth and quality of life depend on reliable and affordable energy. Bringing energy explicitly alongside trade and industry also reflects the integrated way in which Singapore must pursue its next phase of growth, she said. She outlined related technical amendments in a Bill on Tuesday (Nov 3).
