Gan Siow Huang on support for students with adverse childhood experiences

01:31 Min

Educators are trained to look out for signs of physical, behavioural or emotional changes in students and recognise signs of child abuse. They work with parents and social service agencies to support those who have gone through adverse childhood experiences. Students in distress are referred to school counsellors and student welfare officers. Such cases are also reported to the authorities for investigation and intervention. The schools work closely with community partners so that affected students receive the necessary specialised assistance. Minister of State for Education Gan Siow Huang highlighted these efforts in reply to a Parliamentary question on Monday (Oct 14). She said the Ministry of Education will continue to help affected students develop safe and positive relationships in school so that the impact of their adverse experiences is reduced.
