Gan Thiam Poh on Carbon Pricing (Amendment) Bill

02:33 Min

Singapore cannot be sure that other countries will adhere to their low-carbon commitments, said MP Gan Thiam Poh in Parliament on Tuesday (Nov 8). With that in mind, he asked how the Government will help emissions-intensive trade-exposed sectors such as energy, chemicals and electronics remain economically competitive and ensure that jobs are not lost to jurisdictions with less stringent legislation. He also wanted to know what incentives are available for developing solutions to achieve net-zero carbon emissions at “no additional cost”, and how the Government will minimise the impact of carbon taxes on consumers.
