Gan Thiam Poh on Women's Charter (Amendment) Bill
A "lifesaver", said MP Gan Thiam Poh of the proposed amendment for divorce by mutual agreement on the grounds that the marriage has broken down irretrievably. Speaking in Parliament on Monday (Jan 10), he hopes this would pave the way for couples to channel their energy and resources to moving forward and preventing the situation from escalating. He also urged the Government to continue to review its measures and penalties to deter marriages of convenience, as such partnerships undermine the institution of marriage and fabric of society.
