Gho Sze Kee on Workplace Fairness (Dispute Resolution) Bill

11:28 Min

Singapore should not become an overly litigious society; not every issue should be fought in court and not every grievance should be escalated into a legal arms race, said MP Gho Sze Kee. Speaking in parliament on Tuesday (Nov 4), she pointed out that justice is best served when it is quick, fair and accessible, as well as cheap. The Employment Claims Tribunals (ECT) was designed precisely for this, she said. She raised concerns about the lack of direct legal representation at the ECT. She also had strong reservations about leaving out smaller firms with fewer than 25 employees and urged the government to devote more resources to assist them with the process of compliance.
