Goh Hanyan on central kitchen food safety
Central kitchens are licensed by the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) and subjected to more frequent inspections due to their large scale of operations. This applies to central kitchens and caterers serving all consumers, including vulnerable ones such as nursing home residents. Central kitchens are also graded under a safety assurance framework. Since August 2025, SFA has stepped up checks on central kitchens supplying school meals under a Ministry of Education programme. The authorities will continue to strengthen food safety management systems from the kitchens through to transport, storage and distribution for consumption. Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Sustainability and the Environment Goh Hanyan said this in parliament on Tuesday (Feb 3) in response to an MP’s questions.
