Goh Pei Ming on fires arising from unattended cooking or electrical sources
From 2023 to 2025, the proportion of fires attributable to unattended cooking or electrical origin in residential premises was 68 per cent, 65 per cent and 59 per cent, respectively. The corresponding figures in commercial premises were 66 per cent, 72 per cent and 67 per cent, respectively. Over the same period, five fires in residential premises and 11 fires in commercial premises involved breaches of the Fire Code. Minister of State for Home Affairs Goh Pei Ming gave these updates in parliament on Thursday (Mar 5) in his reply to an MP’s questions.
