Goh Pei Ming on scams targeting seniors

07:11 Min

In 2025, seniors aged 65 and above made up about 15 per cent of all scam victims - the only age group to register an increase in the number of victims between 2024 and 2025. Each senior lost about S$37,000 on average, the highest among all age groups. About two in five scam victims who were seniors fell prey to investment or government official impersonation scams. Police do not track the amount of scam proceeds recovered by age group but the recovery of scam proceeds is very challenging. Minister of State for Home Affairs Goh Pei Ming said this in reply to an MP’s question in parliament on Thursday (May 7).
