Grace Fu on tackling increased risk of flash floods

07:54 Min

Singapore must prepare for more extreme weather scenarios as it is likely to experience more flash floods from intense rain, said Sustainability and the Environment Minister Grace Fu in Parliament on Tuesday (Sep 14). She was replying to MPs’ questions on recent incidents of flooding. Ms Fu said improvements to PUB’s rainfall forecasting capability will be completed by early next year. This will enable more timely public warnings and deployment of portable flood barriers to at-risk areas. Ms Fu urged the public to subscribe to SMS flood alerts by PUB and the National Environment Agency. She also called on building owners and contractors to ensure their own flood protection measures are effective.
