Hany Soh on Child Development Co-Savings (Amendment) Bill
Singapore introduced paternity leave over a decade ago, yet the take-up rate remains at only 53 per cent. MP Hany Soh said this in Parliament on Wednesday (Nov 13), expressing doubt over whether enhancements in paternity and shared parental leave will result in a substantial uptick. She suggested providing more support and incentives to companies, particularly small- and medium-sized enterprises, to encourage stronger take-up of shared parental leave by fathers. New parents could also be given an extra bonus payout or leave entitlement if fathers step up in using their paternity leave, she said. To help young families defray high costs, she called for expanding the list of approved uses of the Child Development Account.
