Hany Soh on Cybersecurity (Amendment) Bill
Singapore has been making “monumental strides” in its transformation into a Smart Nation. At the same time, the greater its usage of and reliance on digital services and infrastructure, the more susceptible it will be to cyberattacks which are growing in frequency, scale and sophistication. MP Hany Soh said this in Parliament on Tuesday (May 7) during the debate on the Cybersecurity (Amendment) Bill. Ms Soh focused her speech on the proposed designation of a new class of regulated entity - Entities of Special Cybersecurity Interest (ESCIs). She asked how promptly an entity will be informed of its ESCI designation and whether it will be given any support to ensure it is familiar with its legal obligations. What determines whether the designation of an entity is disclosed and will the public have access to a database to review the relevant precedents and case outcomes, she asked. She also wanted to know what factors will be taken into consideration when deciding on the appropriate penalties to be imposed for non-compliance with regulations.
