Haresh Singaraju on Land Transport and Related Matters Bill
In parliament on Tuesday (Feb 3), NMP and family physician Haresh Singaraju spoke on the new requirement for a Certificate of Medical Need to use mobility vehicles. He noted that the existing guidelines are sound, but refinement will be needed as “grey zones” emerge from real-life cases. Dr Haresh asked the authorities to gather feedback and case studies after rollout, to refine their approach. The Singapore Medical Association’s Guidelines on Medical Assessment of Fitness to Drive, developed over years and now a trusted reference, is a good model, he said. He also called for safeguards to be built in from the start for future policies, rather than reacting downstream.
