Hazel Poa on Constitution and Penal Code Amendment Bills relating to Section 377A

03:43 Min

The Progress Singapore Party (PSP) supports the repeal of Section 377A of the Penal Code which criminalises sex between men. It reached this position after a significant group of members who had held strong opposing views decided to put aside their personal opinions, recognising that the law was unenforceable. NCMP Hazel Poa said this in Parliament on Monday (Nov 28). She added that many Singaporeans are concerned about the effect the repeal will have on the institution of marriage, and that PSP believes the definition of marriage should be decided via a national referendum rather than by Parliament, so that the public can have their say.
