HDB scraps mandatory budget meals at coffeeshops

HDB has removed the mandatory requirement for coffeeshops to offer budget meals, making the scheme voluntary in a bid to improve long-term sustainability. Operators who opt in will offer fewer budget options, in return for extended rental discounts of up to three years. The move follows feedback on rising costs, uneven quality and low take-up. Authorities say existing contracts remain unchanged and there will be no sudden drop in budget meal availability. Natalie Ong reports.
