He Ting Ru on Carbon Pricing (Amendment) Bill

16:48 Min

Set up a public registry for cases where facilities are allowed to surrender international carbon credits (ICCs) in excess of the prescribed limit of up to five per cent of taxable emissions - this was the call from MP He Ting Ru in Parliament on Tuesday (Nov 8). She said this would help to track if facilities are exploiting the allowance, ensure transparency in granting permission, and allow industry players and civil society to observe the use of ICCs and whether certain facilities are over-reliant on them. Ms He also sought clarification on the quality and eligibility of carbon credits and urged the development of high-quality green financial markets and instruments to reduce the possibility of greenwashing.
