India votes: First phase of polling underway in world's largest general election

The world's largest election is underway. Nearly a billion people in India will cast their votes in a poll that will last more than six weeks. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is seeking a historic third term, and is campaigning for more growth, welfare and Hindu nationalism. The largest of the seven phases of voting began on Apr 19.
