Indranee Rajah on support for paternity leave

05:48 Min

The Government has progressively enhanced parental leave schemes to better support parents and particularly fathers in playing a bigger role in raising their children. It is heartened that some companies are "leaning forward" to offer additional paternity leave on top of legislated provisions, said Minister in the Prime Minister's Office Indranee Rajah. Replying to an MP’s question in Parliament on Thursday (Mar 10), she said support for the caregiving needs of parents must be balanced with the manpower and operational needs of employers. She stressed that a more sustainable approach is for companies to develop a family-friendly culture. She added that the Government will continue to work with its tripartite partners to review the scope for more parental leave provisions and build a Singapore that is "made for families".
