05:56 Min

All Singaporean children receive substantial benefits that support their growth and development from the Government, regardless of their parents’ marital status. These include Child Development Account benefits, such as the S$3,000 First Step Grant. Working mothers, regardless of their marital status, are also entitled to 16 weeks of Government-paid maternity leave, six days paid childcare leave per year for children aged below seven years or two days for children aged seven to 12, as well as concessionary migrant domestic worker levy. The Government supports all parents, including unwed working mothers, to give their children education opportunities and good healthcare so that they can realise their fullest potential in life. Second Minister for Finance Indranee Rajah said this in reply to an MP’s questions in Parliament on Friday (Mar 11). She stressed that the Government will do its best to ensure that single mothers are supported.
