Jamus Lim on CareShield Life and Long-Term Care (Amendment) Bill
The government has assured the public that it would ensure that no one will lose coverage due to inability to pay their premiums - and this is important because cost-of-living pressures remain a major concern for many Singaporeans, said MP Jamus Lim. “The last thing we would like to do is to saddle our workers with yet another cost increase at a time when they are also simultaneously concerned about job security,” he said in parliament on Wednesday (Oct 15). He wanted to know what proportion of current participants receive premium support and what the process of additional premium support entails. He also wanted to know if CareShield Life would be directly run by the Central Provident Fund Board under the direction of the Ministry of Health, or if it would be outsourced to a third party or private insurer to administer. He stressed the need to assure the public that, if it is managed by a non-governmental entity, claims will continue to be evaluated - not just with an eye towards prudence, but also compassion and common sense.
