Janil Puthucheary on Singapore’s COVID-19 vaccination strategy

Singapore is actively studying a heterologous strategy for COVID-19 booster shots involving non-mRNA vaccines and is negotiating with suppliers. It is starting a booster programme for the vulnerable and will continue to observe global and local data, especially on the risk of adverse reactions, before recommending more population groups for a third shot. Senior Minister of State for Health Janil Puthucheary said Singapore has a deliberate strategy to procure a portfolio of vaccines that use different technologies to improve its chances of securing jabs that will continue to be safe and effective against the virus. He also told Parliament on Tuesday (Sep 14) that the Health Ministry is working to increase the vaccination take-up rate. He was answering MPs’ questions on Singapore’s COVID-19 vaccination, testing and safe management plans.
