Janil Puthucheary on transition support for Beverage Container Return Scheme
Producers of about 80 per cent of beverage containers can incorporate the deposit mark and barcode requirements directly onto their containers. Beyond the once-off implementation costs, they should see costs per container close to the producer fee of three to four cents, which should keep compliance costs low for most drinks sold. As some producers may need time to comply with the requirements of the Beverage Container Return Scheme, the transition period has been extended from three months to six months. Senior Minister of State for Sustainability and the Environment Janil Puthucheary said this in reply to parliamentary questions on Tuesday (Feb 3).
