Jeffrey Siow on managing new challenges in North-South Corridor construction
The revised timeline for the construction of the North-South Corridor has caused significant unhappiness, particularly among those who have been living with the construction for some time, said Transport Minister Jeffrey Siow. Replying to MPs’ questions in parliament on Tuesday (Oct 6), he explained why the Land Transport Authority (LTA) has concluded that more time is necessary, as well as outlined what it is doing to improve conditions for residents and businesses and how it will complete the remaining works safely. Mr Siow stressed that it is better to build safely than to rush the work and assured the House that LTA is on top of the safety agenda. Safety checks are built into every stage and if engineers detect anything that requires further investigation, the works will be paused for LTA to adjust its construction methods accordingly, he said.
