A key thrust of the Info-communications Media Development Authority (Amendment) Bill is strengthening fair competition. In the digital world, dominance can form very quickly. The bill allows the Infocomm Media Development Authority to act to ensure that no single player can accumulate influence in a way that reduces competition or harms consumers. It also strengthens fair access to essential resources for small- and medium-sized enterprises and local creators, leading to more diverse content, homegrown services and opportunities for local talent. MP Jessica Tan said this in parliament on Wednesday (May 6). At the same time, she noted that clear guidance and transparent processes will be essential to avoid overcorrection, ensure business certainty and maintain a pro-innovation environment.
