Joan Pereira on Constitution and Penal Code Amendment Bills relating to Section 377A

05:10 Min

Fault lines are being drawn in Singapore's society as a result of the views of various groups occupying centrestage on the issue of Section 377A, said MP Joan Pereira. Speaking in Parliament on Monday (Nov 28), she said the views of every Singaporean should be heard and valued. She believes the views stem from a "love for the future of our people and our society and a love for this world". Those who expressed fear are coming from a position of love, not of hate, for their country and community, she said. Those who feel that the repeal of Section 377A is long overdue share this position of love, she added. She warned that there are voices that are drawing and exploiting the fault lines in the social fabric, and could be driven or initiated by foreign elements with an insidious agenda.
