Joan Pereira on Good Samaritan Food Donation Bill

04:12 Min

In Parliament on Wednesday (Aug 7), MP Joan Pereira urged the Government to do more to educate and incentivise businesses to donate surplus food. This includes providing administrative and infrastructural support to get them started. She added that the Government, food suppliers and stores, voluntary welfare organisations and volunteers need to work together to develop an efficient and safe logistical supply chain to effectively channel food donations to charities and beneficiaries. As waiving liability alone may not be enough to move some suppliers and sellers to donate, a tax incentive might also be helpful, she said.
