K Shanmugam on COVID-19 (Temporary Measures) (Amendment No. 4) Bill

Requiring commercial landlords to provide two weeks’ rental waiver to eligible tenants affected by Singapore’s COVID-19 Phase 2 (Heightened Alert) measures - that was the proposal in a Bill debated in Parliament on Tuesday (Sep 14). The tenants must be SMEs or non-profit organisations with annual revenue of not more than S$100 million, who suffered at least a 20 per cent drop in average monthly revenue during both Phase 2 (Heightened Alert) periods compared with Phase 3. Law Minister K Shanmugam said the interests of landlords were also considered. Those who face financial hardship in providing the rental waiver can apply to be exempted if they meet certain criteria.
